Growing and preparing food is still rather low tech. For the most part; people are still key players at every step. However, that could change, and soon, as robotics is changing many aspects of life and is now making inroads within our food. Can robotics change the way we eat? Let’s take a look at robotics and food supply.
“There are major technologies coming in the next 10 years to make each part of farming more efficient, more productive and hopefully healthier and less expensive,” says Dan Steere. He heads up a company called Abundant Robotics in Menlo Park, California.
By the time children that are in middle school become adults, the entire food cycle may be handled by robotics. Currently, robots help farmers. Drones can inspect the surface and help farmers make smarter planting choices. Other robotics plant fruits, vegetables and grains in a more efficient way.
Harvesting will soon be done more quickly, bringing the food to market in a more timely manner. Some food warehouses already have self-driving trucks.
Robots will potentially get your food to your plate. In fact, a robot named Sally is already doing that. The goal is to make the way food is produced and prepared faster, easier and more efficient.
With that being said, for Sally to deliver the food to the plate and not drop it on the table; ‘she’ needs to be able to see well. With a precision lens designed and created by Universe Optics; you can rest assured that will happen. Quality lenses built into the robotic equipment you are manufacturing is our number one goal.
Robots aren’t in every part of the field-to-plate process yet. But soon they will be. This will make the food process more streamlined for us. Even more importantly, robots could one day even out the world’s food supply. Think about it. Today, drones helps farmers know how to plant more. Other types of robotic technology help them know how to plant more efficiently; while other types help growers harvest more quickly — which means farmers can plant more.
